Booklist Review
Junior volleyball for both boys and girls is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S.--and sure to grow even more given the additional interest generated by this summer's Olympics. The American Sport Education Program has consistently provided helpful guides for youth-league coaches, and this second edition of its volleyball text is no exception. Geared to those coaching 6-to-14-year-olds, the guide includes a discussion of the rules, a review of court sizes based on age, and a catalog of the skills needed to achieve a modest level of success. The book also features drills useful in mastering those skills and tips on game strategy and preparation. Despite the excellent nuts-and-bolts instruction, though, the most important part of the book may well be the reminder that one's motivation to coach at this level should be the desire to teach, not to win. --Wes Lukowsky
