This interesting, technical work brings together 29 articles that examine the international comparability of labor statistics. There is an urgent need for international standardization of labor-accounting definitions and terminologies, and of data collection and classification procedures. These articles document the reliability of existing data collections and analysis schemes, identify weaknesses, and suggest improvements. Twenty-three of the studies are reprints from the Bulletin of Labour Statistics, and one is from the International Labour Review. Both journals are organs of the International Labour Office (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland. The editor, a renowned economist, was formerly the chief statistician for the ILO and is now a research fellow at Statistics Canada. This volume should be available in all libraries serving graduates and researchers interested in international labor affairs. This applies even to libraries with standing orders for ILO publications, because the collection highlights methodological articles that are largely unfamiliar to many researchers. -C. G.
