Choice Review
Immunobiology joins a number of well-written survey works on immunology for undergraduate, graduate, and medical students and their instructors. The two-chapter introduction is sufficiently detailed to provide a worthwhile survey for those relatively unfamiliar with the immune system and immune responses. The central chapters give a more detailed and expanded view of how the immune system develops and functions. Each chapter is supplemented with extensive color graphics and concludes with an excellent selection of current journal references. The final chapters allow the reader to understand and appreciate the complexity of the immune system as it acts in both infectious and immune-deficiency diseases. This volume will be most useful for those approaching immunobiology for the first time. Since the authors and publisher intend to review and revise the book annually, this title should continue to reflect current developments in a rapidly changing field. Special features include an extensive glossary, comprehensive description of CD antigens (appendix 1), and thorough prepublication reviews of each chapter by recognized specialists. Upper-division undergraduate through faculty.
