Choice Review

Cotton's book is the primary reference source for those in the area of inorganic chemistry. From undergraduate students to senior researchers, this book is the first place to turn with a question on the chemistry of a particular element. Organized as a survey of each individual element, it is meticulously referenced and up-to-date. Two important changes have been made in this new edition. First, material covering metal cluster and metal carbonyl chemistry have been moved from separate chapters at the end of the fifth edition (1988, written with Geoffrey Wilkinson) to a combined survey chapter that precedes the coverage of the transition metals in the new edition. The second change is the discussion of both organometallic and bioinorganic chemistry of each element in the descriptions of the elements rather than in separate chapters. Both of these alterations have made Advanced Inorganic Chemistry more user friendly without losing any coverage. A must for anyone working in inorganic chemistry.
