Choice Review
Adamson and Gast's excellent book for students of surface chemistry offers a concise but thorough development and explanation of mathematical models and theoretical concepts of surface phenomena. In addition, the authors provide a broad overview of thermodynamics, physics of friction, lubrication, and adhesion. They also elaborate on emulsion and aerosol theories as well as discuss treatments of macromolecular polymer films, chemisorption, catalysis mechanisms, and a few examples of catalytic reactions such as the ammonia synthesis, Fischer-Tropsch, and photochemical reactions. Many high-resolution photomicrographs, lucid diagrams, useful tables, and other materials important to the understanding of surface chemistry; ample literature citations.
