Written and edited by leading pediatric and family nurse researchers, Children and Families in Health and Illness provides a synthesis of the research literature in nursing for health promotion of children, pediatric acute and chronic conditions, and children and families and the health care system. Each of the four sections begins with a historical overview of the literature. The first three sections present reviews of assessment and intervention models and implications for practice, education, and research for their respective topics. The concluding section examines community infrastructures and issues in health services research. Children and Families in Health and Illness will prove an excellent shelf reference for researchers, graduate students and faculty, and a thought-provoking read for advanced-level practitioner nurses in child or family nursing.

Choice Review
The health care of children and families in the past, present, and future is discussed and explored in this highly readable and eminently well documented new book, which critically synthesizes the available research literature. It covers four areas: health promotion, acute illness, chronic illness, and health delivery models/health services research. The chapters in each of the first three parts follow a similar format: a historical overview of the area, a review of research relating to the assessment of the responses of children and families to health and illness, a review of intervention studies, and a synthesis chapter that suggests focus points for future research. Although this book focuses on the contributions of nurses as clinicians, educators, and researchers to the health and well-being of children and their families, its importance and relevance goes far beyond the nursing profession. Of major interest and value to upper-division undergraduate and graduate students as well as experienced clinicians and researchers from a variety of disciplines. L. A. Lewandowski; Johns Hopkins University
