To update his The Concise Dictionary of Management (1991), Statt changed the title and added several hundred new terms and buzzwords, creating this new but still concise dictionary. It defines business management terms and offers brief entries on significant individuals who contributed to modern management theory. In particular, it emphasizes human relations management and includes terminology found in popular and introductory textbooks about business. Cross-references to antonyms are provided for some words. Entries range in length from a brief sentence to a paragraph. A limited number of illustrations (e.g., the Boston Matrix, an organizational chart, the sigmoid curve) are provided. Rival business management dictionaries give strong competition. Wilbur Cross's Prentice Hall Encyclopedic Dictionary of Business Terms (CH, Mar'96) and Jerry M. Rosenberg's Dictionary of Business and Management (CH, Apr'93) are more comprehensive but priced more reasonably than the hardback version of Statt's dictionary. Each defines terms the others omit. The high price of the hard cover version makes the paperback preferable. As a ready reference source, this dictionary would be useful in academic libraries supporting business curricula. D. J.
